There will shortly be two opportunities for Great Addington residents to help maintain the environment of the village we live in. Please support either or both of these initiatives if you can.
Litter Picking, Sunday October 7th.
Building on the success of the litter picking evening earlier in the year members of staff from our local McDonald’s fast food outlet will meet Parish Councillors in the Hare & Hounds car park at 11 am on Sunday, October 7th for an Autumn Litter Pick. Please join us. Our aim is to collect litter from the gutters, pavements and verges within the parish boundaries. Equipment will be provided. All you need is suitable footwear and a desire to care for the appearance Great Addington presents to residents and visitors.
Churchyard Working Party, Saturday October 13th.
The older part of the churchyard in Great Addington is “Closed for Burials” and whilst it remains church property, is maintained by the Parish Council under Section 215 of The Local Government Act 1972. The newer part is still open for burials and is in the care of the church. A contractor is employed to mow the grass in both areas at regular intervals, but as time goes by the hedges, the ivy, self set saplings etc. encroach on the mown areas. The Parish Council and the Church Council have agreed to form a joint working party on Saturday 13th October from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm to fight back and reclaim ground lost to nature. Please join us – many hands make light work! Bring hand tools such as secateurs, rakes, shears, forks, but not electric power tools as the electricity supply is limited. Wear gloves and suitable footwear. With your help we can make All Saints’ churchyard, a prominent feature at the centre of our village, an attractive space for ourselves and for passers-by.
