The County Council have started consulting on a number of budget proposals for the 2018-19 financial year.  This includes a proposal to reduce the Trading Standards budget by £600,000.  The current Trading Standards net budget is £1,400,000 and the proposal amounts to a 43% reduction in the Service.

The proposal & Equalities Impact Assessment from the recent County Council Cabinet meeting papers can be accessed here . The proposals are item number 6 on the agenda.

In the opinion of the Trading Standards Manager, if implemented, this proposal will significantly diminish protection for consumers and legitimate businesses across the community.   As a stakeholder of this Service, this may be something you may wish to comment upon. You can respond to the consultation at the NCC  webpage – it is open until 1 December 2017.
